Adrenal / Cortisol support


Think about what it feels like when your fight-or-flight response kicks in. Your heart might race, or you might feel unsettled and tense. Now imagine if your body never stopped experiencing that response. Yikes! It’s not uncommon in today’s chaotic world for your body to fall into a pattern of constant stress, and the result is sometimes a dysfunctional adrenal system—one that feels like it’s gone haywire. People sometimes refer to this phenomenon as “adrenal burnout” or “adrenal fatigue.” When your adrenal glands aren’t working as they should, you can have problems regulating a hormone called cortisol, which can lead to sleep disturbances, body aches, and digestive issues. You might be fatigued during the day, wired at night, and in a constant state of low-grade stress. Yeah, not a recipe for living your best life! A key remedy for a cortisol imbalance is sleep. Poor sleep adds to stress—and vice versa. Check your sleep habits to make sure you’re doing everything you can to get enough and to sleep well. There are also natural ways to combat burnout issues by regulating adrenal functioning. Most remedies that people turn to fall into a class of herbal remedies known as adaptogens, aka substances that help the body adapt to stress. All adaptogens provide protection against stress by decreasing sensitivity to stressors, which reduces exhaustion. That said, some work to increase the effectiveness of adrenal gland secretion, some reduce excess hormone production, and others can increase cellular energy levels and prevent oxidative damage.
