You probably remember learning about electrolytes in science class, back in the day, but here’s a quick refresher. Electrolytes are chemicals, including sodium, potassium, and chloride, that regulate nerve and muscle function and hydrate the body. When combined with water, electrolytes conduct electricity, which is essential for cellular functioning and good health. When electrolyte levels are thrown out of whack (think dehydration or illness), serious symptoms can occur, like severe muscle weakness, nausea and vomiting, or heart problems. Pro athletes are known for chugging electrolyte drinks, but they’re not just important for those at the top of their game. In fact, we all should be paying attention to electrolytes!

Has anyone tried iv infusions for chronic dehydration associated with pots or ibs? I drink at least a gallon of water every day and take electrolytes throughout the day, but I’m still dehydrated and I feel awful.

Has anybody here with POTS found any relief with medications? I’ve already dramatically increased my salt intake (and electrolytes), drink a lot of water, use compression garments daily (legs & abdominal), prioritize sleep, eat balanced (I get Post prandial issues), and workout. :( It still isn’t enough and I have an appointment in two months.
I am embarking on a 2 week retreat and juice cleanse today. No food, just electrolytes, water, coconut water, lemon, green juice, 1 nut blend. I will spend the days jogging, walking, doing yoga, meditation, reading and light work. Hoping I will lose a few pounds, kickstart healthier eating habits and quell some of my anxiety via detox/rest/reset?
